*Massachusetts Historical Society will be closing for a private event at 4PM. Start your JOYWALK early here for a terrific exhibition: "1776: Declaring Independence."

Registration required. 

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Tour 1

Ed Ballo

Tour 1 will focus on the "East Fens". Historical and prehistoric foundations of the Massachusett peoples. Sights include the Christian Science Complex, Fenway-Boylston Street Historic District (Johnson Gates), row houses. Urban Planning initiatives of the late 19th century, "Beaux-Art" architecture and urban planning. 

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Tour 2

Ed Ballo

Tour 2 will have a "West Fens" focus. Starting at the John Boyle O'Reilly Statue. Olmstead's Vision, the Back Bay Fens as water management and urban amenity along with subsequent additions and degradations of the water plane in the late 20th century.
