Museums

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Isabella Stewart Gardner first welcomed visitors to her museum on New Year's Day, 1903. On that evening guests listened to the music of Bach, Mozart, and Schumann, gazed in wonder at a courtyard bursting with flowers, and viewed one of the nation's finest collections of art. Today, visitors experience much the same thing. The Gardner Museum has remained essentially unchanged since its founder's death in 1924. Unchanged but certainly not stagnant. Three floors of galleries surround a garden courtyard blooming with life in all seasons. The galleries are filled with paintings, sculpture, tapestries, furniture, and decorative arts from cultures spanning thirty centuries.
College Students: $5 with current I.D.
Children under 18 are admitted free.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
With more than a million objects in its permanent collection, the MFA is one of the great museums of the world. Its core collections reflect the broad tastes and interests of the monied 19th-century Boston collectors who founded it. The classical department is famed for its comprehensive collection of red and black-figured vases, and the Asiatic art collection is among the largest in the world under one roof.
